History of Eastway Bowl

Eastway bowl first came to be in 1965. originally it had only 24 lanes and had a very small bar with only two tables and a bar.

It was first ran by don pearson, who moved to sioux falls and started up his own bowling alley to begin his lifelong bowling career. he taught bowling lessons and participated in tournaments.

Don started the Big Sioux Tournaments as well as a children's handicapped bowling league.

Tom and Cindy Thomas then owned Eastway after purchasing it from don in 1984. In 1987, 8 more lanes were added to make a total of 32 lanes. The bar was also expanded to include a full kitchen and lounge in 1993.

Tom and Cindy’s sons, Josh and Jeremy Thomas managed Eastway from 2005 till 2008, where then they bought the company from their parents.

The brothers ran Eastway together until 2012, where Josh bought the company from Jeremy and took full control of Eastway Bowl. Josh still owns the company to this day.

In this magazine, you'll find "Faces Of" many industries in Sioux Falls, each with their own stories and, of course, specialties.

We are featured on page 56 under "bowling and sports bar".

Quote featured from Josh Thomas in the magazine:

“At Eastway, we truly are all about customer service and your experience. We are always listening to our customers to figure out both how and in what ways we can better serve the public,” Thomas said.

“We want to make it EASY to have fun here! Our goal is for you to leave our facility talking about us and sharing with others the great experience you had, and then looking for excuses to come back!”

Every Staff member and most customers knew and Loved this generous person. We are forever grateful to call him our friend. Eastway Will NEVER be the same without Steve. Steven Donald Eide was born on January 4, 1957 in Sioux Falls to Don and Judy (Clausen) Eide. Eastway became his 2nd home. He not only worked there, he also bowled in several leagues throughout the week and if he wasn’t working or bowling, he was watching others bowl and cheering them on as only Steve could do.
